The OCQ(V) - AX (Avian Exports) covers the export of poultry (including the Poultry Health Scheme), pet birds and captive birds that are not pets.

Qualification Permitted Exports

(1) Poultry is defined as: fowl, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks, geese, quail, pigeons, pheasants, partridges and ratites, reared or kept in captivity for breeding, the production of meat or eggs for consumption, or for re-stocking supplies of game.

Overview of training for OCQ(V) - AX

The training for the OCQ(V) - AX is all provided online. Topics covered include:

  • Procedures and requirements for the export of avian species – specifically the export of poultry, including the PHS and captive birds – with particular reference to variation of procedural and documentary requirements related to country of destination, transit countries and species
  • Legal, professional and APHA requirements and procedures relevant to OVs undertaking export certification for avian species, including detailed consideration of species-specific requirements
  • The legal and professional responsibilities of OVs relating to safeguarding the welfare of avian species presented for export
  • The development of skills required for the resolution of queries/problems relevant to the export of avian species
  • Familiarisation with Defra, APHA and other websites providing relevant information to refresh knowledge

Please note: before applying for the OCQ(V) - AX course, you are required to hold the OCQ(V) - ES and OCQ(V) - EX qualifications, as these are both prerequisite courses for the OCQ(V) - AX.

Revalidation of OCQ(V) - AX

You are required to undergo revalidation for OCQ(V) - AX every four years.
